art nouveau @ istanbul
|
Art Nouveau spread across Europe around the turn of the 19th century,
influencing artists, architects and designers. This exhibition, curated by Prof. Dr. Afife Batur, asks visitors to reconsider the similarities and the variations of Art Nouveau in European cities with different geographical and cultural backgrounds. “ART NOUVEAU (1890-1930) From Europe to Istanbul” runs from June 30 to July 31, 2005 at the Imperial Mint Building, Topkapi Palace Istanbul. The British Council is supporting the exhibition with two models of The Glasgow School of Art building, a masterpiece of early 20th century design by the Glasgow-born architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The Glasgow School of Art’s cultural heritage, primarily through Mackintosh, in addition to its educational role, is of international importance and it links Glasgow with various cities across mainland Europe, each with their own unique contribution to the development of Art Nouveau. |
